As a full service provider of precision injection molding services, Lerner Molded Plastics has developed a reputation as a company that can provide cost effective solutions to difficult manufacturing projects. This particular endeavor posed several challenges, the intricate design of the fan and housing stretched tooling capabilities to their limits. The dimensions, tolerances, and volume required for molding were close to the mechanical limits of our equipment. Even with all of these adverse conditions, this project was completed on time and to the standards of quality that our customer expects.
The housing and fan were designed for use in an anemometer, and composed of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), in a custom iPod white color, and molded on our 165 and 220 injection molding equipment.
The housing featured dimensions of 3.12″ in length, 1.625″ in width, 4.625″ in height, with an outside diameter of 3.00″. The fan had an outside diameter of 2.670″, and a height of .869″. Both sections were required to meet dimensional tolerances of ±0.005″, and angular tolerances of ±0.5°. All of our manufacturing processes are subject to stringent quality measure; these two components received dimensional inspections prior to assembly and delivery. We currently manufacture 30,000 sets of these parts annually.
