What is Injection Molding?

Plastic injection molding is a reliable manufacturing process commonly used for producing mass quanities of identical plastic parts. Injection molding gives manufacturers the ability to produce parts in a cariety of shapes and sizes, including small and large part molding. The process offers benefits such as low scrap rates and the ability to produce identical parts.

How Does Plastic Injection Molding Work?

An injection molding machine contains 3 parts: the hopper, the screw and a heated barrel. The hopper sends resin pellets through the heated barrel. The material is then melted by a screw outfitted with heaters. The palstic is injected through the nozzle into a mold cavity, where it solidifies to the configuration of the cavity. After the process is complete, the parts are boxed and shipped.
